Farm Holidays in Valle d’Aosta
The region offers splendid mountainous surroundings including the highest peaks of the Alps: Monte Bianco (the highest mountain in Europe), and Courmayeur at its feet; Cervino which dominates over Cervinia; Monte Rosa and, of course, Gran Paradiso and its National Park.
Agriculture in Valle d'Aosta produces milk, above all. Here, the typical cattle varieties of Valle d’Aosta are bred known as the “pezzata rossa” and the “pezzata nera”. Fruit and high-quality wines are also produced in Europe’s highest terraced vineyards (up to 1200 m above sea level). Products recognised by the European Union and attributed with the DOP stamp (Protected Denomination of Origin) include, foremost, Fontina DOP which is used to prepare Fonduta, a distinct speciality of this region’s cuisine. Other typical products include: Formadzo DOP, Jambon de Bosses DOP cured meats and Lard d’Arnad DOP.
