Trentino Alto Adige

The most important products from here are apples (Mela della Val di Non DOP) and numerous varieties of DOC wines (Controlled Origin Denomination). Breeding of milking cows is also common (for the production of DOP cheeses: Grana Padano, Provolone Valpadana, Asiago, Spressa delle Giudicarie). In Alto Adige there is widespread production of bacon, called Speck, an IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) certified speciality. Agricultural businesses are generally family-run and they offer farm holidays as a very important form of income for supporting agriculture and defending the land from hydrogeological instability. Above all in Trentino, arrangements are made in the towns and not in the houses scattered in the countryside, as usually happens in other regions of Italy. In Alto Adige, agriturism hospitality is offered in the characteristic farmhouses, typical of these mountainous areas.
