Farm Holidays in Lombardy
Lombardy is Italy’s most important region in terms of economy, as well as for the agriculture of the Po valley, one of the most fertile and productive areas on the planet. Apart from being the province’s main cities, Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, Mantova and Pavia are places of extraordinary historic and artistic interest. We can also add Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Sondrio and Varese to the list. Agriturisms have particularly progressed near the lakes (Garda, Maggiore, di Como and di Iseo). Oltrepò Pavese (Pavia) and Franciacorta (Brescia) are important for wine production (especially spumante), hospitality on farms and beautiful backdrops of rolling hills.
Many agricultural and food products have obtained recognition of their Protected Denomination of Origin (DOP) and Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) quality. Grana Padano and Gorgonzola are famous throughout the world. The Mortara Goose Salame made in Lomellina (Pv) and rice are also notably important. We must also mention the Bresaola from Valtellina (So). In addition to Stelvio, there are also numerous regional parks.
