In the last few years, agriturism in Basilicata has experienced swift developments, most of all along the Ionian coast where, in addition to the typical inviting locations, the archaeological sites of Metaponto and Eraclea (English: Metapontum and Heraclea), near Policoro await you. Agriturisms are also spreading throughout the inland. Visitors should visit Matera, with its rock formations, which was the first South Italian site to be recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site and is to be the European Capital of Culture in 2019.
In the province of Potenza you will find the Pollino National Park, the massive Vulture volcano and the Laghi di Monticchio (lakes). Nearby you will find, Melfi (once the preferred residence of Federico II) and Venosa, where Horace was born. On the Tyrrhenian coast, Maratea is definitely worth a visit. Among the different agricultural products, we must mention the beans of Sarconi IGP, the peppers of Senise IGP and the Caciocavallo Silano DOP. During your stay on the farm you’ll have the chance to taste delicious cured meats always accompanied by a variety of dressed olives.
