Farm Holidays in Abruzzo
Abruzzo’s more suggestive environments and the more characteristic historic centres are, nonetheless, inland where a big part of the land becomes mountainous and you can also find three National Parks: the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park; the Maiella National Park; and the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. Gran Sasso is the highest peak of the Apennines, followed by Maiella. Amongst the typical agricultural products of Abruzzo, we must mention the saffron of Aquila, and the extra virgin olive oils of Pretuziano delle Colline Teramane, Aprutino Pescarese, and Colline Teatine. All are recognised as DOP. The production of olive oil takes place along the coast and on the nearby hills of the inland, where agriturism is more developed. Another featured product of Abruzzo is lamb meat, which is eaten especially at Easter time.
